Disclosure: I work on this project as a contractor, and the application button in this post uses my personal referral link. If you are hired through it, I receive a referral bonus from Mercor. It does not cost you anything or change your pay.
AI companies need a lot of human help to make their models better. Someone has to write hard questions, check the answers, and show the models how real people do real work. Mercor, a company that connects skilled people with AI labs, is now hiring remote contractors for a Generalist role on a research project with what it calls a leading AI lab.
According to the job listing, the work involves creating research questions, answers and evaluation material used to train and test advanced language models. It is fully remote, you set your own schedule, and the listing describes it as part-time at roughly 10 to 20 hours a week. The posted pay range is $40 to $80 an hour as an independent contractor, paid weekly through Stripe or Wise. Your exact rate is set in your contract.
The requirements are specific. You must own a Mac (Apple M-series or Intel) running macOS 15 or newer; this is mandatory. Mercor is looking for people who are pursuing or have recently finished a master’s degree, or who have two to three years of work experience in any field, STEM or non-STEM. Strong online research skills and clear writing matter most. Mercor says it cannot currently support candidates on H-1B or STEM OPT visas.
Applying takes a few steps. You upload your resume, have a short conversation of about three minutes with an AI interviewer, and complete a brief paid assessment. Mercor says applicants usually hear back within a few days.
A few honest notes from my side. This is contract work, not a salaried job, so hours depend on the project’s needs and on the quality of your work, and the project can be extended, shortened or ended early. Pay is for time actually spent working on the project. It suits people who are careful, like to research, and want flexible remote income, more than people looking for a guaranteed full-time paycheck.
If that sounds like you, you can read the full listing and apply below.
