Apple’s First Folding iPhone Is Here. Good Luck Getting One.

For years, people have asked when Apple would make a phone that folds like a book. Today, they finally got their answer. The iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, went on sale on Friday, October 23. There is just one problem: hardly anyone can get one.

The phone opens up from a normal-sized screen into a small tablet. When it is closed, you use a 5.4-inch screen on the outside. Open it, and you get a 7.6-inch screen inside, according to Macworld. It has a strong titanium frame, two batteries, and lets you run two apps side by side. It also does not come cheap. In the US, it starts at $1,999, and the biggest version costs $3,199.

Even at that price, people want it badly. In Sydney, Australia, one early buyer paid $250 for someone to stand in line for him outside the Apple Store, and some people were offering up to $350 for the same job, Man of Many reported. Meanwhile, delivery dates for some online orders in the US have already slipped to late January 2027, Macworld says, and Apple has warned that its stores will have only a limited number for walk-in buyers on launch day.

If you are in India, there is one more thing to know. India is one of the countries where you cannot simply walk into a store and buy one. You have to order online and then pick it up, according to Tech Insider.

So, is it worth the hype? Early reviewers love the design, but they have found some rough edges. Some apps do not fill the big inner screen properly yet and show black bars, and reviewers disagree on whether the battery lasts a full day of heavy use, Macworld notes. It also drops Face ID for a fingerprint button and has no zoom camera. That leaves a big question: is a folding screen worth paying nearly double the price of a regular iPhone, or should you wait for the second version?

If you are tempted, there is no need to rush. With stock this tight, waiting a few months might get you a better deal and a phone with all its early bugs fixed.
